Ten Hag reacts after matching Sir Alex record

Erik ten Hag has spoken about how thrilled he is at the fact his Manchester United side have equalled a long-standing record, set by Sir Alex Ferguson's vintage of 2002/03.

United beat Fulham 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday to secure third place in the Premier League, four points ahead of Newcastle United.

That victory brought us on to 27 victories at the Theatre of Dreams this season, from 33 games played.

Brighton and Real Sociedad are the only teams to win at Old Trafford this term, with Newcastle United, Leeds United, Southampton and Sevilla drawing on their visits.

The number of home wins Ten Hag's side have recorded now matches those achieved during that campaign 20 years ago, when we claimed the Premier League title.

We ended that term with exactly the same home record across all competitions, with 27 wins, four draws and two defeats - to Bolton Wanderers and Real Madrid - experienced between August 2002 and May 2003.

Sir Alex's men did have a better record going forward, scoring 81 goals compared to the current team's 69, although the 20 goals we have conceded this season is an improvement of three on that campaign.

“I think we are all happy with it,” Ten Hag told MUTV when discussing the home form. “And I think one of the positives this season, and there are many positives, [are] the clean sheets, for instance.

“But the progress is very obvious and clear and I think it gives us a good base to get this team, this club back where it belongs.

“We have a good base, we constructed the way of play, the way we build it, the culture. And from there on, we have to step up, to higher the standards and we have to collect more points.”
