Williams 'sharp' and 'ready' after Spain trip

Brandon Williams has declared himself ready for the remainder of the 2022/23 season, after completing United's mid-season training camp in Spain.

The defender has struggled with injury since returning from a season-long loan with Norwich City last season, and is yet to play a first-team United match since the final day of the 2021/22 campaign.

But he took part in both of United's friendly matches in Andalusia, and told club media that he feels much closer to full fitness after completing the camp.

“For me personally, it’s been good,” he told MUTV's Ben Ibson and Danny Webber.

“Finally back out on the pitch, it’s been a long time. I came back a bit rusty but by the end of the camp I felt good.

“I'm still obviously not 100 per cent in game minutes, but in training I feel sharp. I feel ready for a good second half of the season.”
With numerous United players having taken part in extensive World Cup schedules, manager Erik ten Hag will need as much depth as possible when we resume our season against Burnley on 21 December.

And Williams believes there could be chances for not only him, but some of the many younger Academy players who have appeared during the Spain trip.

Asked what advice he would give some of the youngsters, he explained that confidence was the key.

Tom and Brandon were disappointed with defeat, but believe an inexperienced team will benefit from the 90 minutes...

“It’s just not changing the way you play, but coming in [and thinking] you’ve got here for a reason,” said Brandon.

“So keeping that confidence and knowing your abilities as well, coming here and showing the manager what you’re capable of and taking [it to] that next level because it’s not easy.

“It’s a big difference, the speed of the game, the physicality. Like I said, it’s just about coming in and being yourself.”
