Ten Hag: Search on for new striker

Erik ten Hag has acknowledged that Manchester United are in the market for a new striker — but only if they can find the right one.

The boss says the club will attempt to bring in another forward, following the exit of last season's top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo.

Although obviously refusing to be drawn on names, Erik was happy to discuss the subject during an interview with journalists at the winter training camp in Spain.

When asked if he wanted a new forward to replace Ronaldo, Ten Hag replied: "Yes but only when we find the right player.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot's national team have been eliminated from the World Cup.

"We do everything that is in our power, so I do research on every opportunity that comes. We do everything we can if that opportunity will be there."

The winter transfer window opens on 1 January and closes on 31 January, and then reopens in June.

When asked if PSV Eindhoven's Netherlands international Cody Gakpo was a potential target, the manager said: "I cannot give comment on specific players, I will never do. I’ve told you before, in the summer as well, when you talked about a lot of players.

"Each player is under contract and I respect that but we make sure we are working in the background to get the right players in."
