Bruno's message to fans after cup defeat to City

Bruno Fernandes has posted an open and honest message to Manchester United supporters, following Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City.

After a tight and competitive first half at Old Trafford, the Reds unfortunately conceded second-half goals by Blues duo John Stones and Fernandinho to suffer a disappointing 2-0 defeat.

It was United’s fourth semi-final defeat in less than a year after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men reached the last four of the Carabao Cup, Emirates FA Cup and UEFA Europa League in 2019/20.

The manager admitted on Wednesday he was frustrated by the goals we conceded against City and stated we need to improve, in order to reach that next step of winning silverware.

Fernandes has now echoed that sentiment in a message to fans that he has posted via his official Instagram account, writing:
“I’m very sad and disappointed to once again not reach a final.

“We have a lot to fight for yet, but we have to learn and understand that we can’t make the same mistakes anymore. We need to make an effort to further improve and be able to fight for trophies!”

As Bruno says, United have plenty to fight for this season and particularly in the Premier League: the Reds are currently level with leaders Liverpool on goal difference and with a game in hand.

That additional fixture is against Burnley at Turf Moor next Tuesday and a victory would move Solskjaer's men three points clear at the top, teeing up a mouth-watering trip to Anfield next weekend.

Before then, the club’s attention is focused solely on the FA Cup and Saturday night’s third-round tie against Watford at Old Trafford, with the competition very much a priority this season.
