Which Red is Amad Diallo set to reunite with?

New Manchester United signing Amad Diallo is yet to meet his new team-mates, but there's one Red that won't need to be introduced to the Ivorian winger.

The 18-year-old holds an Instagram account under the name @amaddiallo79, and the very first post made under that handle contains a photo of a young Amad posing with none other than Paul Pogba.

The snap shows the Frenchman with his arm around the young Ivorian, who appears to be wearing a training jacket bearing the colours of his first club, Boca Barco.
Amad uploaded this photo of him and Paul in December 2015.
The post was made in December 2015, but Amad's clothing indicates that the photo might have been taken before then, and prior to his move to current club Atalanta in the summer of that year.

Before then, Amad represented Boca Barco – situated between Parma and Modena – alongside his older brother, Hamed, who is now with Serie A club Sassuolo (on loan from Empoli).
At that point, Pogba was then playing the last of his four seasons with Italian champions Juventus, whom he represented between 2012 and 2016.

The midfielder would seal a high-profile return to United the following summer, but surely did not have in mind a possible Old Trafford reunion with the small boy in the photograph.

Diallo to join United in January

An agreement has been reached for the transfer of the exciting young winger.

In the summer of 2015, around the time of that meeting with Pogba, Diallo made the switch to Bergamo, some 70 miles north of Barco, where he would progress through the Atalanta youth ranks to make his Serie A debut, against Udinese, in October 2019.

Just six minutes after coming on for Slovenian forward Josip Ilicic, Diallo picked up the ball on the right flank, drove fearlessly at the Udinese back line and fired home his team's seventh goal of the match.

Less than a year later, an agreement was reached with the Lombardy club to bring the teenager to United.

On Monday 5 October, the club announced Diallo would move to Manchester in January, subject to a medical, personal terms and a work permit.

Does Paul remember him? We'll soon find out, but their second meeting is sure to be a special moment for both players.
