Bruno: We have to look ahead now

Saturday 02 April 2022 21:12

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes says the Reds have no time to dwell on the 1-1 draw with Leicester City and must immediately focus on getting back on track next time out.

United were held by the Foxes in Saturday’s late Premier League kick-off, dropping vital points in the race for Champions League football next season.

Fernandes and co missed the chance to go ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham and level in the table with Arsenal in fourth and are now three behind the latter who have two games in hand, with eight fixtures remaining for Ralf Rangnick’s side.

With ground to make up in the pursuit of a top-four spot, Fernandes insists we have to keep our heads down and look to produce an immediate response next time out.

Bruno: Everyone is disappointed

Bruno Fernandes shares his thoughts after United's draw with Leicester....

“Everyone is disappointed,” the Portuguese midfielder told MUTV post-match.

“This result was not the result that we want but there is nothing we can do now.

“We have to look ahead to the next game and understand that the standard of this club has to be higher and better, and we know we are capable of that.”

Having gone behind to Kelechi Iheanacho’s opener in the second half, Bruno nearly then added to a successful week on a personal level, in which he has helped his country qualify for the World Cup and signed a new United contract, by finding the net immediately after.

Kasper Schmeichel kept out our no.18’s original effort, with Fred on hand to fire home the rebound and equalise at an important point in the contest, according to Fernandes.

“It was important also for the confidence, to push us and obviously the fans start to believe a little bit more with us, start pushing a little bit more.

“As I said before, we started to create a little bit more, we try to win the game but at the end we couldn’t.”

Fred's equaliser cancels out Kelechi Iheanacho's opener as the points are shared at Old Trafford.

With eight games left to play, Bruno is keen for United to get back to winning ways immediately, with a trip to Everton next up, a week from now.

The midfielder insists the Reds can’t look beyond that game at Goodison Park and must keep our composure in the short term to continue making progress in the long run.

“That’s what we have to do [focus on winning every one] and you have to think [about] winning every game we have going forward.

“But now, [we need to be] thinking about the next one and not rushing too much because we have to think game by game.”
