Manchester United striker Charlie McNeill has reacted to his senior debut with a post on social media.

The youngster, who turns 19 today (Friday), came on as a late substitute for Tyrell Malacia as the Reds opened our Europa League campaign with a contentious 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

Although the result did not go our way, it was an understandably proud moment for the local lad, who was a boyhood supporter of the Reds.

Harry Maguire, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford and more are sharing their sympathies.

"An honour to make my professional debut for Manchester United," the centre-forward wrote on Instagram. "I've grown up supporting this club and worked for over 10 years to make this dream a reality.

"Too many people to name who have helped me in so many different ways. Thanks to the Academy staff and coaches for everything they have done to support my development.

"Last night would not have been possible without my family and friends, who have always been there for me.

"Lots more work to come to earn more moments like this."

The teenager scored in his previous two outings for the Under-21s, netting in the 2-1 win at Carlisle United in the Papa Johns Trophy and then converting a penalty in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool in Premier League 2.
