Confirmed: United team to face Liverpool

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has announced his side to play Liverpool at Anfield.

The boss has made three changes for Sunday’s Premier League clash, from the team which beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the Emirates FA Cup on Wednesday.

David De Gea, Luke Shaw and Andreas Pereira have all been included in the starting line-up, with Marcus Rashford missing out due to injury.

The Reds have lined up with De Gea, who sat out the midweek victory over Wolves and is set to play his 21st match against Liverpool, and the Spaniard will be hoping to keep United's fourth clean sheet in five games.

Ahead of him, it looks like Ole has selected a back three of Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Brandon Williams will be deployed as attacking wing-backs.

The boss used a similar system against Liverpool at Old Trafford and it effectively nullified their front three

In midfield, Fred and Nemanja Matic will act as the anchors, while Andreas Pereira will likely be the most attacking of the three men in the centre of the park.

Anthony Martial - who famously scored on his debut against Liverpool in 2015 - will lead the line at Anfield, alongside Daniel James, who set up Marcus Rashford’s goal in the reverse fixture at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Ole explained his set-up, saying: “We have to come to a difficult place, we have to come and play against a very difficult team, and try and maximise the players we’ve got available.

”I think we’ve got a chance to trouble them with the way we’re playing.

“You’ve got to defend well against this team, but you can’t just lay back and wait for them to come,“ he added. ”We’ll need courage and bravery to try and get on the ball and make the pitch as big as we can, and give them a problem.

Reflecting on the meeting between the sides back in October, Ole told MUTV: “We did have some threats and created chances and we should have and could have won it. I thought we played well but then when we looked at it the play with the ball has got to be better. We need to come here and stamp our authority on the game. We need to be good on the ball and turn them when we can because we know we’ve got pace upfront.”
