Beckham expects incredible day at Old Trafford

Friday 26 April 2019 12:00

One month today, on 26 May, David Beckham will be pulling on his famous no.7 shirt to take part in the Treble Reunion match at Old Trafford - an occasion he is very much looking forward to.

After leaving Manchester United in 2003, David returned to Old Trafford for Gary Neville's testimonial match in 2011 and hosted his Match for Children in aid of Unicef in 2014, but this is the first time he will be reunited with his former team-mates as part of the iconic Treble-winning squad.

David Beckham wants to see YOU in exactly one month's time! Here's the man himself to explain all...

"I'm so excited to be coming back, especially for this game," said Becks. "I haven't seen some of the squad for a while, so to all be back together, as players and friends, will be a great moment."

David is also looking forward to playing under Sir Alex Ferguson again, as the legendary manager returns to the Old Trafford dugout, to celebrate lifting the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League trophies with his team during that historic season.

"Having Sir Alex there to manage us will be an incredible moment," the former England midfielder said. "To have the boss back at Old Trafford will be huge for the fans - it will be an incredible day."

The Treble Reunion match will take place exactly 20 years to the date that Manchester United emerged from the Nou Camp in Barcelona victorious, with a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich. The two teams will now meet once again for the anniversary match, with funds raised going towards Manchester United Foundation's work with young people across Greater Manchester.

Beckham continued: "Being a team that achieved so much in 1999, to come together and do something like this and raise as much money as possible for the Foundation is so important for all of us as individuals, as a team and, of course, Manchester United as a club."

David Beckham was a key member of the Treble-winning side.

David Beckham will be joined in the midfield for the Treble Reunion by fellow Class of 92 stars Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Teddy Sheringham, Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole return up front.

Peter Schmeichel will be back in goal, with Jaap Stam, Denis Irwin and the Neville brothers making up the defence. Raimond van der Gouw, Ronny Johnsen, Henning Berg, Wes Brown, David May, Jesper Blomqvist and Jonathan Greening complete the squad.
