De Gea plans to use this week as energy to improve

David De Gea has posted a short but impactful message to Manchester United supporters around the world, emphasising his desire to bring success back to the club that he loves.

The Spanish goalkeeper spoke emotionally and with passion on Tuesday night after the Reds were unfortunately knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid at the last-16 stage.

Our no.1 is one of the most experienced United players and he could not hide his disappointment in midweek, and particularly when sat in front of journalists at a post-match press conference.

David has continued to mull things over this week and, three days on from the match, the 31-year-old admits it has been a difficult experience, but he and the players will regroup.

“It's taken me a few days to be able to talk about my intense disappointment from our Champions League exit,” says David, in a note shared with his followers on social media.

“We didn't do enough over the two games but this is on us. We must use this as energy to improve ourselves, to learn, to achieve and challenge again. That is all we can do in this tough moment.

“I have said many times that we are far away from where we want to be but, we as players, will go again for the remaining Premier League games.”

UNITED’S RUN-IN

Incredibly, there are 18 days between the Atletico match and United’s next fixture in the Premier League.

That is due to this weekend being filled with Emirates FA Cup fifth-round ties and the impending international break, which will be a mix of World Cup play-offs and friendlies, although David is not in the Spain squad for their games.
