News from day two at the United camp

Tuesday 03 August 2021 18:50

Both the weather and the action hotted up on Manchester United’s second day at the training camp in St Andrews.

With Monday having been mainly about acclimatising to the new surroundings, the work increased on Tuesday morning, under the watchful eye of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his staff.

While the four goalkeepers – David De Gea, Tom Heaton, Lee Grant and Matej Kovar – went to the far side of the pitch to train with their coaches (check out the video of De Gea below) the rest of the squad worked up a sweat in front of us, under the beating Scottish sun.

As we know, fitness is a huge part of pre-season and the lads started with some shuttle runs to get the juices flowing.

David De Gea and our keepers were put through their paces with a cool gadget this morning (no audio)…

Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick took the next drill, working on build-up play before an intricate-looking routine which pitted attack against defence.

The two-hour session was then brought to end with an 11-a-side game on a shortened pitch and, as you’ll see from our gallery of training images, nothing was left out there!

After lunch, the media team conducted interviews with three first-team Reds at the squad hotel.

Jesse Lingard was the first player we spoke to and we asked United’s no.14 about pre-season so far, how he’s feeling after his loan spell at West Ham and how preparations are ramping up before the season opener with Leeds on 14 August.

Bruno Fernandes was next. It’s always great to spend time with the Portuguese magnifico and he was in top form once again on a range of topics, including his favourite United chant…

Finally, captain Harry Maguire appeared before the cameras during the week in which he celebrates two years since signing for the club. Where has that time gone?

Keep your eye out for all the interviews coming soon!

The lads then finished the day with a short stretching session. We’ll be back with more on Wednesday…
