Dalot: This has been my best month at United

Sunday 02 January 2022 18:00

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot acknowledges that we will need to be “at our best level” to start 2022 with a victory against Wolves on Monday evening.

The Midlands club will be our first opponents of the new year when they make the trip up to Old Trafford for the 17:30 GMT kick-off.

United can make it back-to-back wins in the Premier League with all three points, having overcome Burnley 3-1 in our final game of 2021 last Thursday.

But Dalot is under no illusions about the strength of our next assignment in the form of Bruno Lage’s side.

Everything you need to know about our first fixture of 2022.

“I think it’s the general opinion that games against Wolves are always difficult,” he tells club media in the lead up to the fixture.

“The first game against them was a tough one to play at their ground, so we need to expect the best from them. They’re going to want to play, they’re going to have physical, fast players up front, so we need to be ready.

“I think they’ve been doing a fantastic job, not just when they’re in the Premier League but when they were in the Championship, to bring the club back to the Premier League.

“They did a fantastic job. This couple of years, they’ve been a very tough team to play against. We need to expect the best from them, they’re going to have quality players, they’re a pretty solid team.”

“I think for the people that like football it’s going to be a good game to watch because there’s two great teams on the pitch, two teams who want to keep the ball, want to play, to score goals.

“They’re always a tough team to play against, we need to be at our best level. Hopefully we can start the year as we finished it (2021).”
The full-back was asked to make an impact from the bench during our last outing against Burnley but prior to that had started the Reds’ previous four league matches over the course of December.

Dalot has reflected on the last few weeks and how he is feeling going into another action-packed month ahead.

“To be honest, it’s been probably one of the best months that I’ve had at this club,” he admits.

“I’m feeling good, physically, having minutes, playing a lot of games, winning games, it’s been very good.

“Hopefully I can keep this momentum here for the next month.”

This month of course starts with that visit of Wolves before further matches to come in the Premier League, and in the FA Cup as we kick-off the new year.

Our no.20 has detailed his and the team’s aspirations for 2022.

“First and foremost, [I wish everyone] a very good year of success and health,” the 22-year-old expressed.

“We hope to bring you some joy this year with wins, with titles, with good performances.

“So, we invite you to keep that support at Old Trafford [and] away from home as you do always, and to be together now with us as a team, as a football club, and [I wish you] a very good 2022 for you and all of your families.”
