Early team news for United v RB Leipzig

Marcus Rashford played the full 90 minutes during United's 0-0 Premier League draw with Chelsea at the weekend, twice going close to scoring the breakthrough goal, only to be denied by the Blues' goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Edinson Cavani came off the bench early in the second half to make his Reds debut, almost netting with his very first touch as a United player, while Mason Greenwood was also introduced late on as he returned from a two-match absence.

All three should be available for our second match in Group H, alongside Anthony Martial, who is still serving a suspension in domestic competition but can play in Europe and did so during last week's impressive 2-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes.

Odion Ighalo is also available, meaning Solskjaer is spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding who should lead the line.

With only Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard so far confirmed as being likely to miss out, with Ole saying the pair could be on the sidelines for the next few weeks, the Norwegian may have a few tough calls to make when it comes to filling the starting XI and 12-man substitutes' bench.

Alex Telles, on debut, and Axel Tuanzebe, returning from 10 months out injured, were among the standout performers from our win in Paris, but didn't feature at the weekend.

If Ole opts to revert to the back three which served United so well in France, both men could come back into the fold, although the back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw has performed well in each of our last two domestic outings.

Central midfield is another area in which Solskjaer will be considering whether to stick or twist.

Scott McTominay and Fred have acted as the starting pivot in all three games since the international break, with Paul Pogba being introduced on 69, 63 and 58 minutes to provide forward thrust and help United source a winning goal.

Nemanja Matic and Donny van de Beek are also options if Ole wants to refresh things, though, with further tricky tests coming up over the next fortnight against Arsenal, Istanbul Basaksehir and Everton respectively, he may be tempted to utilise the pair at a later date.

Matic last started for the Reds against Tottenham at the beginning of the month, while van de Beek has featured twice from the off - both times in the Carabao Cup.

RB LEIPZIG TEAM NEWS

It seems likely that Lukas Klostermann (knee) and Amadou Haidara (positive COVID-19 test) will have to sit out the Red Bulls' first-ever meeting with United. Midfielders Tyler Adams and Konrad Laimer are also missing with knee problems.

Former Crystal Palace forward Alexander Sorloth enjoyed a prolific 2019/20 campaign at Trabzonspor and joined RB Leipzig in the summer. He started for the first time at the weekend and could partner Yussuf Poulsen up front, depending on which system Julian Nagelsmann chooses to employ. French defender Ibrahima Konate is also back in the reckoning - he has appeared twice for the Red Bulls in the past week, after an injury-hit 12 months which has seen him limited to just one 90-minute outing since September 2019.
