Diogo Dalot in action against AZ Alkmaar.

Early team news for Partizan encounter

Tuesday 22 October 2019 16:55

Manchester United are preparing for the trip to Serbia ahead of Thursday's Europa League Group L contest with Partizan Belgrade.

The two teams currently lead the way in the table and the European test comes on the back of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool in the Premier League.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will, no doubt, consider shuffling his pack, with this weekend's trip to Norwich City on the horizon, but he has a number of injury issues to contend with.

Defender Axel Tuanzebe injured his hip during the warm-up ahead of the draw with Liverpool.

Full-back Diogo Dalot has confirmed he is sidelined with an injury sustained in our last game on the road, at Newcastle United, while Axel Tuanzebe pulled out of the Liverpool clash at Old Trafford before kick-off, despite being named in the XI, as he had a hip problem.

Luke Shaw, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard were also ruled out of the match with the Merseysiders, along with long-time absentee Eric Bailly.

On the plus side, Aaron Wan-Bissaka returned last weekend and David De Gea overcame an injury scare while on international duty with Spain, in order to keep goal. Anthony Martial also made his long-awaited comeback by entering the fray as a substitute in the second half. Elsewhere, Phil Jones was named on the bench after proving his fitness.

It is worth noting that midfielder James Garner was not involved in the Under-23s' 4-1 win against Swansea City on Monday so he could be in contention for a place in the travelling squad after an excellent start to the campaign.

Academy youngsters Brandon Williams, Tahith Chong, Angel Gomes and Mason Greenwood all were involved in our the last European trip - to the Netherlands, earlier this month - to face AZ Alkmaar.

James Garner could be an option to make the travelling squad.

United will train in front of the media on Wednesday morning when some more clues as to the squad's makeup could be revealed. The travelling party should then be announced via our Official App and ManUtd.com before the manager holds a press conference in Belgrade.

The match kicks off at 17:55 BST on Thursday.
