Edinson Cavani celebrates his goal against Everton in the Carabao Cup

Revealed: United's Goal of the Month for December

Sunday 03 January 2021 15:00

Edinson Cavani has won his first monthly award as a Manchester United player, after fans voted for his excellent opener against Everton as the club's greatest goal in December.

The Uruguayan icon, who signed for the Reds on transfer deadline day in early October, broke the deadlock in our final match before Christmas when he beat Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen with a brilliant left-footed shot in the 88th minute.

Moments later, Anthony Martial sealed our 2-0 away win in the Carabao Cup quarter-final and although the three-match suspension Cavani received last week means he'll miss the semi-final against Manchester City at Old Trafford this coming Wednesday night, he'll soon be back on the pitch, seeking more important contributions for the Reds.

The runner-up in our Goal of the Month poll was the first of Marcus Rashford's brace against Sheffield United, which gained just one per cent more of the votes cast in our Official App than Scott McTominay's second strike in the 6-2 demolition of Leeds United.
