Manchester United Women midfielder Ella Toone has enjoyed a remarkable rise with the Reds and England since she returned to her childhood club in the summer of 2018.

Since moving back to United for the inception of our women's team, Ella has developed into a pivotal member of the squad, and at just 23 years of age, she still has her best years ahead of her.

Last season was particularly notable as Toone surpassed 100 appearances for the club and established herself as a trusted member of the England Lionesses’ squad.

She capped this off by scoring a vital goal in the Euro 2022 final at Wembley, as Sarina Wiegman’s defeated Germany 2-1 to be crowned European champions.

“I don’t think we’ll ever get bored of hearing ‘European Champions,’” said Ella, in the latest episode of TeamViewer Player Diaries, a Lionesses-themed special.

“It was an unbelievable summer that we had together, and I think we’ll want to keep remembering it every single day. That will never get old.

“[Scoring in the final was the] best feeling I’ve ever had, and it was an unbelievable moment. [It was] very special.”

Of course, Toone wasn’t the only Red with a role in England’s European success, with Mary Earps, Alessia Russo and summer signing Nikita Parris all part of Wiegman’s squad too.

And following the Lionesses’ triumph, Ella has a message for those who have been inspired to get involved in football.

“We always say to the younger generation, the ones coming through, that the main thing is just to enjoy yourself,” our no.7 said.

Ton-up for Toone

Ella Toone became the first ever United Women player to reach 100 appearances in Sunday's win over Brighton.

“Enjoy every minute of it. Now I’ve learnt so much more, I think that you’ve just got to be that little kid who used to play on the street and in the park and just go out there and express yourself in different ways.

“We always say to the ones coming through 'just enjoy yourself and be confident and believe in yourself'.

“Make sure that you set yourself some dreams because you can achieve them.”
