Toone: The club’s ambitions match mine
Manchester United Women’s no.7 Ella Toone says she’s “delighted” to sign a new contract at the club until 2026.
The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a fresh deal after four incredible years at United, which have seen her become the first-ever centurion for our women’s team – after making 100 appearances – and also help England’s Lionesses to Euro 2022 glory in the summer.
After signing her new contract with the Reds, Ella explained that there was really no other option in her mind.
“[I’m] delighted to sign a new contract with this club,” she said.
“The club’s ambitions really match mine and there’s nowhere better for me to learn from.
“It’s a proud moment for me and my family.”
Having grown up in Tyldesley, Greater Manchester, Ella has always been a huge supporter of Manchester United. She arrived at the club in 2018 when United Women were formed, played a pivotal role as the Reds climbed out of the Championship, and is now helping us challenge for Champions League football.
“[United] means everything,” she said. “To pull on the shirt every day and step out and play for the childhood club that you support is really special, and I’ll never get bored of pulling the shirt on and playing in front of our fans at our stadium.
“I’m just delighted that I can do it for even longer.”
Toone is pleased to have committed to the club, and is excited to see what the future holds for Marc Skinner’s Reds.
“I can just really knuckle down now and not worry about the future for a while,” she explained. “This is home for me.
“This is where I come in every day, and I’m happy and I enjoy it. I love the girls and the staff are amazing. It’s where I can really start improving as a player and person.”
She added: “As a club, our ambitions are so high now. We are hungrier than ever to achieve something. This club is about winning trophies and for us as players, that’s what we want.”
