Ella Toone scored her second goal of Euro 2025 as England convincingly dispatched Wales to qualify for the tournament’s quarter-finals.

After Georgia Stanway opened the scoring from the spot, Toone’s close-range effort found the top corner with 21 minutes played.

Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo added further strikes as the Lionesses raced into a 4-0 half-time lead and they eventually ran out 6-1 winners, with Hannah Cain scoring a consolation for the Welsh between goals from Beth Mead and Aggie Beever-Jones.

Grace Clinton and Maya Le Tissier were unused substitutes for England, while Safia Middleton-Patel also watched on from the bench as Wales exited the competition.

With France overcoming the Netherlands 5-2 in Basel and clinching a third straight victory, the Lionesses finished second in Group D and will take on Sweden in the last eight.

The winner of that contest will go on to play either Norway or Italy in the semi-final.

Les Bleues, meanwhile, are set to face Germany, while world champions and tournament favourites Spain go up against hosts Switzerland.

United still have seven players involved in the competition, with our England trio joined by Melvine Malard, who did not feature against Reds team-mate Dominique Janssen in the win over the Dutch.

Celin Bizet, Lisa Naalsund and Elisabeth Terland are also competing, with Norway, who get the quarter-finals under way on Wednesday.
