Revealed: Bailly and Richarlison exchange DMs

Thursday 24 December 2020 09:13

Manchester United defender Eric Bailly and Everton talisman Richarlison exchanged Instagram messages on Wednesday night, after they were involved in an accidental collision at Goodison Park.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Reds secured an excellent 2-0 victory in the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie on Merseyside thanks to late goals from Edinson Cavani and substitute Anthony Martial, teeing up a mouth-watering semi-final against Manchester City at Old Trafford in January.

While United were deserving winners in the end, it was a competitive match against Carlo Ancelotti’s in-form Everton side and the Toffees were unlucky to lose Richarlison to a head injury.

The Brazilian was involved in an unfortunate incident after 56 minutes, when he initially collided with Bruno Fernandes and then Bailly, as the three players competed for possession. Richarlison was consequently substituted as the Everton medical staff took every precaution to protect the player’s welfare.

There’s nothing better than a late win – enjoy extended highlights of Wednesday’s victory on Merseyside now…

In a show of sportsmanship after the game, Bailly used his official Instagram account to send a message of goodwill to his opponent, writing:

“Sorry for this post I hope Richarlison is good.”

The Everton playmaker then responded via direct message (DM) to show there are no hard feelings towards the United defender, telling the Ivorian:

“No problem, you are a very good defender. Thanks for the message.”

Bailly shared Richarlison’s DM with fans via his Instagram Story and he then concluded the positive exchange with: “I’m sorry. Take care little brother, you’re the best.”
Bailly posted this message to Richarlison via his Instagram Story.

Everton manager Ancelotti thankfully provided an update on Richarlison during his post-match interviews with the media, saying: “Richarlison is fine now. It is no problem. We are going to check in the next few days what is going on. Fortunately, he was ok afterwards.”

He added: “I think it was an unfortunate challenge. Dangerous, yes, but all of the players were at risk I think. Our doctor had total control of the situation, he decided to take him off and I was in total agreement with him. He had control of the situation and the welfare of the player.”

Bailly and Richarlison exchanged friendly DMs on Instagram after the accidental collision.
We wish Richarlison well with his recovery.
