What did Bailly think of Amad's goal?
Eric Bailly was beaming with delight after seeing his great friend Amad open his Manchester United goals account in our 1-1 draw with AC Milan on Thursday night.
The 18-year-old netted his first Reds strike with a quite brilliant backwards header just minutes after coming on as a substitute at half-time at Old Trafford.
Every outfield player ran over to celebrate with Amad, including his close pal, Bailly, who launched himself on top of the United huddle.
Club media’s Mark Sullivan caught up with Eric at the Aon Training Complex and asked him how he felt seeing Amad find the net.
Solskjaer confirms contract negotiations
ArticleThe manager reveals the club is currently speaking with a defender's representatives about a new deal.
“The kid is very happy and I’m happy for him,” said the defender. “The goal will give him more confidence and will keep him going. I was so happy for him.”
The Ivory Coast duo have become firm friends, with Bailly acting as a bit of mentor and father figure for Amad. Bailly is known amongst his team-mates as one of the big personalities in the dressing room and is a popular member of the squad, and the man himself says his main aim is always to be there for his United colleagues.
“I try, I try. In football you have good moments and sometimes bad moments and in these moments you need to speak with players and make them happy and laugh. I try to do this,” he explained.
“When I play I give everything and when I don’t play I try to speak with the guys and enjoy the game and enjoy everything. You have to enjoy life.”
In terms of matters on the pitch, Bailly hopes to play his part in Sunday’s Premier League clash with West Ham at Old Trafford.
The central defender admits everyone was frustrated with the last-minute equaliser for AC Milan on Thursday, but he says the players are aiming to replicate our performance from the Manchester derby against the Hammers.
“You don’t have an easy game in England, every game is hard,” he said. “West Ham are in a good moment now but, when I think about my team, I believe if we are focused like we were against City then we can get the three points.
“A moment like against AC Milan can happen. West Ham have a good team and are doing well, but when our team is in a good moment we are difficult to stop.”
