Manchester United defender Eric Bailly has posted a message to supporters after it was confirmed on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The 26-year-old unfortunately caught coronavirus while representing Ivory Coast during the latest international break, and he is yet to return to Manchester.

Bailly is an extremely popular player among our supporters and the centre-back has received lots of messages on social media since the news broke at the weekend.

Keen to acknowledge the best wishes that have been sent his way, Bailly uploaded a short video via his official Instagram account on Monday afternoon.

Looking straight into the camera, Eric says: “Hi guys. Thanks for all of your messages. Just to say, I am good, I am fine, everything is good. It is just time to rest and come back stronger.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer addressed the situation on Sunday night, after Bailly was left out of the squad that went on to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at Old Trafford.

“Unfortunately, he won't be with us for a little while,” the manager told reporters.

“He's been away with Ivory Coast and he tested positive with COVID and he's not back in the country yet.”

It is currently unclear when Bailly will be available for action again, as United look to build on Sunday’s comeback victory over Brighton at Old Trafford.

The Reds’ next match is a Europa League quarter-final first leg against Granada on Thursday night, which will be followed by an important Premier League outing versus Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.
