Ten Hag explains United line-up

Erik ten Hag has provided some insight into his Manchester United to face Fulham on the final day of the Premier League season.

The boss has made six changes to the XI that started the 4-1 victory over Chelsea on Thursday, that lifted us into third place in the table, ahead of Newcastle United.

Champions League football may already have been secured for next season but Ten Hag wants to finish above the Magpies, as well as equalling a club record for single home wins in a season, across all competitions.

"We played on Thursday and, as so often this season, we are in a very bad shadow," Ten Hag told MUTV before kick-off. "The opposition didn't play at all during the week, so we want to have fresh players.

"We want to win this game, we can secure the third place and we can match a record, with 27 wins. That's 20 years ago but that's the one time in the big history of this magnificent club."

Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Tyrell Malacia, Fred, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford are all in the XI and Ten Hag also admits some players can stake a claim for next weekend's Emirates FA Cup final.

"We're protecting players but also we want to win," he told BBC. "So we have a fresh team, we give others the opportunity and also to present them for next weekend."

Ten Hag challenged Garnacho, who scored the dramatic late winner in November's reverse fixture, to grasp his starting opportunity.

"He deserves to start and now he can show if he deserves it," the boss continued. "I spoke the other day - that's the next step for him: to be a starting XI player.

"We know he has a huge impact when he's coming from the bench, so we want to see it. And to be fair, he already showed this season several times when he started he can also do a really good job for the team."
