Ten Hag names side for Sevilla decider

Erik ten Hag has selected his Manchester United side charged with the responsibility of keeping the Reds on the road to Budapest in the Europa League.

Sevilla are out to maintain an incredible run in the competition, winning 23 of the last 26 home games, following their late comeback in the 2-2 draw in the first leg at Old Trafford last week.

However, Erik's men have already eliminated other La Liga teams in Barcelona and Real Betis and will hope to clinch a semi-final spot against either Juventus or Sporting.

Ahead of kick-off, Ten Hag discussed his selection and the thinking behind Rashford being on the bench, after his recent enforced absence, with Marcel Sabitzer drafted in to replace suspended midfielder Bruno Fernandes, despite withdrawing from the XI at Nottingham Forest in the warm-up at the weekend.

Harry Maguire skippers the side, with Diogo Dalot, scorer of the second goal in the 2-0 triumph at The City Ground, retaining the left-back slot. Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, other options for the position, are not risked from the start after their own injury issues.

"Every time we have to adapt the team due to injuries or suspension, we adapt it," the manager told BT Sport. "We need that tonight because we are facing a tough opponent."

In his club media interview, he was asked by reporter Mark Sullivan why Rashford and Shaw were on the bench.

"It's not only managing [their fitness], you want to win," he explained. "You need a way to win. But I also know this game can be over 90, maybe over 120 minutes and then are you sure they can do a 120 minutes? Because we do not want to risk any more injuries. And, of course, we can bring them on.

"That is the idea and this team beat Nottingham Forest, so I think they are full of confidence, full of belief. So they have to do it. Shaw and Rashy, but also others, we can bring on.”
