Ten Hag: We need this discipline more often

Manchester United's fight and discipline at Anfield on Sunday cannot be a flash in the pan, says Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman's side battled for every ball and challenged for every header against Liverpool on Sunday, in a 0-0 draw that was anything but boring.

Following the game, which United could very well have won on another day, Ten Hag urged his side to use the performance on Merseyside as the standard to match in future fixtures.

Erik ten Hag spoke about Kobbie Mainoo, Raphael Varane and 'being hard to beat' after the game...

"I am very proud of this team," he said in his post-match press conference.

"We should do this more often.

"For instance, Newcastle was also a tough game and we make one mistake and switch off and then it is a goal. But when you stay in the game, and you are disciplined in your game plan, finally it opens up and then you can take your chances."

Ten Hag believes the draw against Liverpool is a marker to his side, that reminds them they can go toe-to-toe with the leading teams in the division. He hopes this will bring United confidence, as we look to progress beyond our current seventh-place spot in the Premier League.

"We are capable of beating Liverpool," he added.

"I think we proved today we are capable of [matching them].

"So if we bring this in every game, then first of all we are a hard team to beat and then from that point we can go on and win games – and also big games."
