Laird getting used to life in League One

Ethan Laird has allayed any injury fears after an eventful home debut for MK Dons in the 3-1 victory over Fleetwood Town for the Manchester United loanee.

The right-back notched his first assist in senior football when setting up the opening goal for hat-trick hero Joe Mason and has already looked the part with his new club, earning plaudits for his positive play.

However, he was withdrawn in the 58th minute, after sustaining a couple of heavy knocks.

Laird posted on Instagram to explain he had only picked up a 'dead leg' and will hope to feature in the Buckinghamshire side's next outing, against Charlton Athletic next Tuesday.

Dons manager Russell Martin explained afterwards that it is purely a case of the youngster learning to live with the rigours of football at this level.

"I think he's just getting used to life in League One so I am sure he will be fine," Martin said at his post-match press conference.

“I have been really pleased with him. We need to get some work into Ethan so he understands fully what we're doing but he's showing real glimpses of what he is about.

“I've been pleased with Ethan but he's got a lot of improvement to make as well."
