Solskjaer exclusive: We'd love to win the FA Cup

Ole's men welcome Wolves to Old Trafford following the goalless draw between the two sides earlier this month. The Reds are in high spirits after Saturday's 4-0 win over Norwich and the United boss says his players are fully focused on booking a place in the fourth round of the cup to face either Tranmere or Watford...

Ole, how is the energy after that good win on Saturday against Norwich?
“Of course the boys are happy with that. It was a good response so we’re looking forward to Wednesday night. It’s a game where we are one step closer. We’re at home now. Any away game is difficult but Molineux has been tough for us so we’re looking forward to it.”

I guess there isn’t much research needed into Wolves given how often we’ve played them recently?
“Yes. Of course we’ve been looking back at the games we’ve played against them to see if there are any updates, but they have a settled style. They’ve done really well under Nuno [Espirito Santo] so we know what we’re up against and I think they know what they’re up against so hopefully it’s a good game.”

How do you approach it this time around? Any differently?
“We want to win the game and go through. The FA Cup is a fantastic tournament, it’s one we’d love to get to the final of and win it. We’ve just got to make sure we put a strong team out and that we’re ready to compete because they are physical, strong and good on the counterattack and at set-plays.  They’ve got players who can shoot so we need to be at it again.”

It’s been a busy season for both teams with domestic cups and the Europa League as well – the games have stacked up haven’t they?
“Yes. I think they are the club in the Premier League which has the most competitive games and also with the Europa League I think we’re both enjoying it because we’re still in it and doing okay. We’re both challenging towards the top four and this tournament is one we both want to go all the way in.”

Where do you stand on cup replays? It’s a kind of lifeblood for lower league teams in these rounds and of course we had one of our best ever games in the club’s history with the 1999 Arsenal replay…
“Good save by Peter [Schmeichel] wasn’t it! [Laughs] I think Phil’s [Neville] life was in ruins for half a minute until Peter saved that one! Replays are the rules. Of course we could have done without it because we’ve got Liverpool on Sunday, but it’s a game to win. I’m not against replays because we do have players that need games as well so it’s a chance to give some more minutes.”

You mentioned it’s a very quick turnaround for the Liverpool game – that match must be on your mind?
“After this game. We’re not in a position where we can think too far ahead. Now it’s this one, Liverpool, Burnley, hopefully the next round in the FA Cup then City and then Wolves. So six games then we’ve got the mid-season break so we’re going to go all out in these six.”
