FA confirms date and time for Community Shield

Wednesday 26 June 2024 12:00

The Football Association has confirmed that the 2024 Community Shield will take place at 15:00 BST on Saturday 10 August.

The fixture, which is widely acknowledged as the starting gun for the English football season, pits the winners of the Emirates FA Cup, United, against the reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.

Of course, that means a repeat of last season's FA Cup final, where United memorably overcame the Blues by two goals to one.

The upcoming game will be our third Community Shield meeting with City  we won both of the previous two contests, in 1956 and 2011.

The match will be televised live in the UK via ITV 1, ITVX, STV and STV Player, and comprehensive radio coverage will be offered by BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC Radio Manchester, BBC World Service, TalkSPORT and TalkSPORT International.

The FA said that further details – including ticketing information – will be announced at the earliest opportunity.
The Reds were last involved in the Community Shield eight years ago, in 2016, when goals from Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic helped us overcome Leicester City.

We've won on each of our last four appearances in the showpiece game, and have lifted the trophy (formerly known as the Charity Shield) outright on 17 occasions. On a further four occasions, we've shared it with other clubs after draws.
