First United players report for pre-season training

Monday 08 July 2024 15:00

Pre-season training got under way at Carrington on Monday morning, as the first Manchester United players arrived back from their summer breaks.

Erik ten Hag's squad will return on a staggered basis over the next few weeks, with those on international duty set to come back later.

The initial group of players due back reported for medical testing this morning, followed by a first training session in the afternoon.

The Reds who returned on Monday included Andre Onana, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Redevelopment at Carrington means the players are using different facilities this season, as work gets under way to modernise their usual building elsewhere on the site.

All our teams – men’s, women’s and Academy – will experience changes to their usual training environment this season as the project progresses, while maintaining access to high-quality facilities and pitches throughout.

Once completed, all our teams will benefit from the major investment being made to bring Carrington back up to world-class standards.

Of course, Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo (England), Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho (Argentina) and Facundo Pellistri (Uruguay) are still competing for their countries in the major tournaments currently taking place in Germany and the United States.

The Netherlands provide the opposition for England on Wednesday in the Euro 2024 semi-finals, after Argentina take on Canada in their last-four clash at the Copa America. Uruguay are facing Colombia in the early hours of Thursday morning (UK time).

The Reds' second friendly will be against Rangers at Murrayfield, Edinburgh on 20 July. We'll then fly out to the United States for Tour 2024, presented by Snapdragon, and take on three teams: Arsenal (Los Angeles, 27 July), Real Betis (San Diego, 31 July) and Liverpool (Columbia, 3 August).
