Evans: Our aim is to win the FA Cup

Manchester United defender Gemma Evans has made one thing clear: our aim is to win the Adobe Women's FA Cup this season.

The Reds are eyeing progression this term, having been narrowly beaten by Chelsea in the final during our historic campaign last season.

“Our aim is to win it,” the Wales international told club media, as we get for Sunday's fifth-round tie away to Southampton.

“We take each game as it comes and jump over [any] hurdle.”

Evans: We've got to rise to the challenge

Gemma Evans believes we must "rise to the challenge" to get past first-time opponents Southampton in the FA Cup...

With plenty of Reds fans expected to make the long journey down south, Evans knows we will hear our supporters loud and proud on Sunday.

“Wherever we go, we always hear the fans,” she said.

“It’s never like an away game.”
Undoubtedly, Gemma and her team-mates will want to give supporters plenty to cheer about on their way back north.

“That is something that we’ve got to rise to [the challenge], no matter where we play.

“I think our performances over the last few weeks have been getting better. As a group of girls we’re tight-knit and we’re a family so I think wherever we play we’ll perform to the best of our ability.”

United have had to overcome injuries at the back this season, including to Gabby George and recently Jayde Riviere, who Gemma replaced in our 2-0 win over Brighton last weekend.

But that hasn’t stopped a real unity shining through, with Evans adding: “Injuries can happen whenever so we need to keep pushing each other whether we’re playing or not.

“The ones not playing pushing the ones who are to be the best they can be, and to improve yourself. It’s been tough but we all push each other to our limits in a positive way.”
