Maguire named in Team of the Tournament

England defender Harry Maguire is Manchester United's sole representative in the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament.

The Reds skipper was outstanding at the heart of the defence after recovering from the injury that kept him out of the climax to the domestic season, scoring a header against Ukraine in the quarter-final and powering home his penalty in the final shoot-out with Italy.

However, many fans will be surprised there were not more United men in the best XI. Luke Shaw enjoyed a superb tournament, and opened the scoring in the final to add to his three assists, but lost out to Italy's Leonardo Spinazzola for the left-back berth.

Paul Pogba also excelled for France and would surely have been a contender for Player of the Tournament had the pre-finals favourites progressed further in the competition than the last 16.

Three England players made the select side in total with Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling also being included.

The panel picking the XI were UEFA's technical observer team, which consisted of the likes of Fabio Capello, Republic of Ireland legends Packie Bonner and Robbie Keane, former United boss David Moyes and ex-Reds goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek.

Team of the Tournament: Gianluigi Donnarumma (Italy); Kyle Walker (England), Leonardo Bonucci (Italy), Harry Maguire (England), Leonardo Spinazzola (Italy); Jorginho (Italy), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Denmark), Pedri (Spain); Federico Chiesa (Italy), Romelu Lukaku (Belgium), Raheem Sterling (England).
