How to watch and follow United v Liverpool

Thursday 18 August 2022 07:00

Manchester United will look to get off the mark in this season’s Premier League when Liverpool are the visitors to Old Trafford on Monday evening.

It’s been a difficult start to the new campaign for Erik ten Hag’s United, following back-to-back defeats against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

But a meeting with an old rival awaits under the lights on home soil as we look to kickstart our term with a big performance in a historic fixture.

Ahead of the match, here is a quick round-up of everything you need to know…

We recall four victories that gave the Reds a vital boost after a tough run of results.

HOW CAN YOU FOLLOW THE GAME?

Monday night’s game at Old Trafford gets under way at 20:00 BST, with supporters able to tune into MUTV’s live build-up from 18:55, featuring guest pundits and former Reds Dion Dublin and David Jones.

Registered users can watch the pre-match and post-match shows in the United App and on ManUtd.com. Radio commentary is also available on our platforms during the game.

The fixture will also be broadcast on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK.

WHEN CAN YOU SEE THE HIGHLIGHTS?

Short match highlights will be available to watch in the United App and on ManUtd.com two hours after the final whistle, so approximately 23:45 BST.

Extended 20-minute highlights can be viewed from 00:01 BST in the early hours of Tuesday morning. MUTV viewers will also be able to see the full game from the same time.
WHAT’S THE TEAM NEWS?

Ten Hag could give us some clues to the XI that he will pick during his pre-match press conference on Friday, which you can watch live on ManUtd.com, MUTV and in the United App.

Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial both missed our last outing at Brentford and will, no doubt, be among the talking points during the media briefing.

As for the visitors, new signing Darwin Nunez will be suspended for their trip across the M62 having received a red card during Monday’s draw with Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara, Roberto Firmino, Curtis Jones, Diogo Jota, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Calvin Ramsay all missed the visit from the Eagles earlier this week through injury, with their statuses for Monday’s game unknown at this stage. Jurgen Klopp has hinted Firmino may be available.

HOW HAVE THEY STARTED THE SEASON?

Liverpool will also be searching for their first victory of the Premier League season on Monday night, having been held by Fulham (2-2, away) and Crystal Palace (1-1, home) in their opening two matches of the new campaign. Klopp’s side had previously lifted the Community Shield this summer, following a 3-1 win over Manchester City at Leicester’s King Power Stadium on the final weekend of July. That game came off the back of their five-match pre-season campaign, featuring a meeting with United in Bangkok, which Ten Hag’s Reds won 4-0.

ANY NEW FACES?

Uruguay forward Nunez, who will miss the game through suspension, made the move from Benfica, while Klopp has also added teenage pair Calvin Ramsay (a full-back, from Aberdeen) and Fabio Carvalho (a lively forward, from Fulham) to his squad in the summer window.
