Manchester United travel to Southampton on Saturday for an important Premier League fixture, as Erik ten Hag’s side look to put together back-to-back victories after Monday’s win over Liverpool.

A win at St. Mary’s Stadium during Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off will provide us with the opportunity of moving up the table before the rest of the weekend’s action commences.

Here are the major talking points ahead of the Reds' trip down south on Saturday.

HOW TO WATCH

The game is set to be broadcast live on BT Sport 1HD and Ultimate in the UK, with coverage commencing an hour before kick-off at 11:30 BST.

Alternatively, you can watch build-up and post-match reaction live on MUTV, which is now available in the Manchester United App. The pre-match show will begin at 11:25 BST on Saturday morning.

In addition to the live show, keep an eye on our official channels for team news, highlights, interviews with Ten Hag and our players, and plenty more matchday content.

TEAM NEWS

One of the main talking points prior to our last outing – Monday’s 2-1 win over Liverpool – was the return of France forward Anthony Martial. The striker came off the bench at half-time to make his first competitive appearance for United this season, impressing with an assist and some impressive all-round play, and he could be in line for more minutes against Southampton this Saturday.

Victor Lindelof and Facundo Pellistri have been United's other injury concerns recently. We could have further updates on Ten Hag’s squad when he delivers his pre-match press conference on Friday.

For our hosts, Tino Livramento remains out with a long-term knee injury, while fellow full-back Romain Perraud has also been sidelined since the first match of the season away to Tottenham. Perraud was deemed not fit enough to feature in the Saints’ Premier League win over Leicester at the weekend, but he may be back for our trip to St. Mary’s.

FORM GUIDE

United enter this clash in buoyant mood, having recorded an important – and impressive – win over Liverpool on Monday. Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were on the scoresheet, although any one of the Reds who featured against our rivals could be singled out for individual praise. Following the win over Liverpool, Ten Hag expressed his desire for United to carry the fighting spirit into Saturday’s game.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night, recording a 3-0 win over Cambridge United, thanks to a brace from Che Adams and a goal from Dominic Ballard. Prior to this win, the Saints defeated Leicester City away from home last weekend 2-1, lifting Hasenhuttl’s side to 11th in the Premier League table.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

History is in United’s favour when you look at the head-to-head record in the Premier League between these two sides. United have not lost on any of our last 12 top-flight visits to St Mary's, although four of the last six meetings on the ground have finished level, including last August's game. That ended 1-1.

Of the 46 total Premier League clashes between the sides, United have won 28 and scored a remarkable 98 goals, the most Southampton have conceded against any one opponent.
