United v Forest: Info for match-going fans

Friday 25 August 2023 18:00

If you're coming to Old Trafford for the Nottingham Forest game, here is all the essential pre-match information you need to know...

CELEBRATING OUR FORMER REDS

There will be a special pitchside presentation tomorrow, to award league winners’ medals in recognition of the immense contribution made by former Manchester United players in title-winning teams between 1952 and 1975.

The well-deserved medals can be presented after a change in the English Football League rules on how many appearances players needed to make to receive a winner’s medal.

Under the new rules, 19 former players have been identified as qualifying for a medal for their contributions by playing five or more matches and we will celebrate 13 of those heroes tomorrow afternoon.

The medals will be presented by Sir Alex Ferguson, either directly to players who are still with us or to family representatives of players who have sadly passed away.

GETTING HERE

It's August Bank Holiday weekend and Saturday is the date for three big events. As well as the United game at Old Trafford, the annual Pride parade is set to hit the streets of Manchester and a huge music event will be held at Wythenshawe Park.

We strongly advise car users to not drive in the city centre. For people who have no option but to drive, we will encourage the use of Metrolink park and rides to complete the journey by tram. For more information, please visit the dedicated Transport For Greater Manchester website page for the Bank Holiday weekend.

TRAVELLING BY TRAM

To support the fixture, there will be a service running to Old Trafford on the Altrincham line every 7.5 minutes.

Due to the concert at Wythenshawe Park, we are anticipating the Airport line (towards the Airport) to be at its busiest between 17:00 and 19:00 BST.

After the match, to allow for the safe queueing and management of fans at Metrolink stops, we are asking Altrincham-bound customers to use Old Trafford, and East Didsbury and Airport customers to use Trafford Bar.

INDUSTRIAL ACTION

There are planned strikes set to take place on matchday that will affect First Manchester bus services and rail services. First Manchester services in Rochdale, Oldham, Manchester and Ashton will be affected and little to no rail service will operate on the day of the fixture. We will be encouraging spectators and non-attendees to plan their journey as soon as possible and speak with the operator to see how they are affected.

BAG POLICY

All bags will be searched and items larger than 20cm x 15cm x 5cm (8" x 6" x 2") must be left at one of the Bag Drop facilities. There is a £5 charge to leave an item at a Bag Drop, with all profits going to the Manchester United Foundation. For more information on bag restrictions, including a list of prohibited items, please visit www.manutd.com/bags.

CASHLESS STADIUM

All payments whilst at the stadium must be made using cashless, contactless payment methods. Please note that cash will not be accepted for kiosk transactions.
