Mixed fortunes for international Reds
Four Manchester United players were in UEFA Nations League action for their countries on Saturday night and experienced mixed fortunes.
Diogo Dalot and Bruno Fernandes were on the winning side for Portugal as they beat Poland 3-1 in Warsaw.
Reds skipper Fernandes set up the opening goal with a knockdown for Manchester City’s Bernando Silva to volley in.
Former United star Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 133rd goal for his nation to double the advantage, before Piotr Zielinski smashed in to reduce the arrears for Poland.

But Southampton defender Jan Bednarek’s own goal late on sealed a third successive victory for Portugal in Group A1.
Dalot played the full 90 minutes and Fernandes was replaced in stoppage time by Otavio. Meanwhile, a familiar face lined up for Poland as Maxi Oyedele - who left United in the summer to join Legia Warsaw - made his international debut in midfield.
Next up for Roberto Martinez’s Portugal is a trip to Hampden Park to face Scotland on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Denmark duo Christian Eriksen and Rasmus Hojlund as they were beaten 1-0 by Spain.
Eriksen started the match in front of a sell-out crowd in Murcia, before giving way to Lazio’s Gustav Isaksen on 73 minutes.
Hojlund entered the action in the 78th minute in place of Rennes midfielder Albert Grønbæk but, moments later, Martin Zubimendi scored the winner for the European champions.
The Real Socediad midfielder’s first international goal saw Luis de la Fuente’s side leapfrog the Danes into top spot in Group A4.
Christian and Rasmus could feature again when Lars Knudsen’s men take on Switzerland on Tuesday evening.
