Sancho's ecstatic tweet after goal against Leeds

In the 70th minute of our Premier League clash against Leeds on Wednesday, Manchester United were in the ascendancy, with Marcus Rashford having halved the visitors’ two-goal lead and the Reds searching for a leveller.

The ball fell kindly to Jadon Sancho inside the box and he side-footed the ball beyond Illan Meslier to equalise, sending the Old Trafford crowd into pandemonium.

This wasn’t just a successful comeback against one of our bitter rivals, it was the match in which Sancho announced his return.

There was quite the noise around Old Trafford when Jadon Sancho got United on level terms with Leeds...

Exactly a week earlier, Jadon was introduced as a second-half substitute in our Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Nottingham Forest and, along with Anthony Martial and Rashford, had a telling impact that saw the Reds run out 2-0 winners on the night.

That appearance was the 22-year-old’s first since October 2022, and his goal against Leeds was his second in the Premier League this season, following his finish in our 2-1 win over Liverpool back in August.

Following the draw against Leeds, Sancho was understandably ecstatic.

He tweeted: “I can’t tell you how much I’ve missed this feeling! Team showed great character to stay in the game, we go again on the weekend.”

United manager Erik ten Hag was full of praise for the winger after the match, stating that he is a “magnificent football player” who can contribute greatly for the Reds this term.

“He is all the way back,” Erik said in an interview with Sky Sports. “We know he is a magnificent football player, and he can definitely be, for our team, a big impact. Tonight, he had [that].

“I think he can be consistent and have a great impact. But he has to work, every day, really hard, as we all [must]. In this moment, he is in a good mood. I think it will strengthen him, it will motivate him to even give more and then you will see you will get more.”

United’s next match is the reverse of Wednesday’s fixture, as Ten Hag’s side take on the Whites at Elland Road this weekend.

After the impact he had in our first meeting against the Yorkshire side , the Dutchman may be tempted to give Sancho a start on Sunday.

What’s for sure, though, is that it’s great to see Jadon back and raring to go!
