Why United must bounce back at Bournemouth

Monday 16 April 2018 12:45

Jose Mourinho insists his Manchester United team must forget about Sunday’s defeat against West Bromwich Albion and immediately focus on the midweek trip to Bournemouth.

The Reds are planning to bounce back from the surprise loss, against the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night.

Speaking to MUTV after the Baggies game at Old Trafford, the boss reiterated that his side needs points to secure a top-four finish and Champions League football next season, after his former club Chelsea came from behind to beat Southampton 3-2 on Saturday.

“We lost three points that could give us great stability for the second position,” he said. “We still have the fourth position to fight for because Chelsea won yesterday [Saturday] and we lost, so we still have to fight for the top four.”

The Reds still have the Emirates FA Cup to fight for, but have one day less to prepare for Saturday’s crucial semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Mourinho has stressed the importance of his players regaining their focus and performing with the right attitude, as he admitted last weekend’s Manchester derby victory might have given his players too much confidence.

“Confidence was too high because, when you win a match that gives you nothing, just gives you three points but you react in a way that it looks like you won something really important you pay the price.”
