Fantasy United: Keys to success so far

Tuesday 01 October 2024 11:30

The official Manchester United fantasy football game launched this summer and is now eight matchdays in, following a busy few weeks on the pitch for the men’s team.

Since our Premier League opener against Fulham, fans have been selecting a five-a-side team of players from our men’s squad for every competitive match, and scoring Fantasy United points based on the real-life actions of their chosen Reds, represented by dynamic Player Trading Cards.

Competition has been strong across our global rankings, not least at the top, where just 24 points separates 16 managers – although a slender lead has been carved out right at the very summit.

Here’s your guide to our exciting new fantasy football game, in which your favourite Reds can propel you to glory.

‘Sayhisanti’ managed by Santi Trakulsrimongkol tops the worldwide leaderboard after eight matchdays, with a pacesetting 385 points, 12 clear of the nearest challenger.

Over a third of those points – a highlight 135 to be exact – were earned during United’s recent 7-0 win over Barnsley, in which Santi’s team included each of our players to score two goals on the evening – Christian Eriksen, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

Rashford was Santi’s Ultra-Rare selection on that occasion – as he has been on four out of eight occasions so far this term – earning triple the points for every return as a result, while our leading manager has also trusted Lisandro Martinez (twice), Noussair Mazraoui and Mason Mount with that golden responsibility.

As far as further selection strategy goes, we’ve noticed that Santi has been using the depth of the Player Trading Cards collection to full effect, having been yet to pick the same five-man line-up for two games in a row.

Interestingly, goalkeepers have also been a theme of our top manager’s sides so far, despite there been no requirement in Fantasy United to include a player that features between the sticks.

Santi opted for a shot-stopper in each of the first five matchdays, notably being rewarded by choosing Andre Onana for his penalty-saving performance at Southampton and Altay Bayindir as he kept a clean sheet on home debut against Barnsley.

It has all added up to a successful start to the season for our current world no.1 – but can you get ahead? Your next chance to close the gap will be during Thursday’s UEFA Europa League game at FC Porto, for which the deadline to submit your team is 18:30 BST, 90 minutes before kick-off.
