James Garner has received plenty of plaudits after another Man-of-the-Match performance for his loan club Nottingham Forest.

The Manchester United youngster produced a mature display at the heart of the midfield in helping Forest gain a point from a 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Brentford in front of the live Sky Sports cameras.

Mason Greenwood was one of those to offer congratulations on social media, posting a 'star man' message, while former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie, who chose the 20-year-old for the prize, said: "He has been all over the pitch today. He's had plenty of energy, kept the ball well and kept things moving for Forest."

Forest manager Chris Hughton spoke glowingly about the form of the England Under-20 international.

"We’re very grateful to Manchester United for his services and we’ve got a good relationship with them,” he said.

“We’re keeping him very much on top of his physical stats, so it’s difficult to talk about next season because he’s not our player.

“The only thing I can say is that we are really delighted with him, not just about his contribution, but how he settled in as a young lad because it can very difficult at that age.”

Meanwhile, Facundo Pellistri caught the eye with several dynamic dribbles in Alaves' unlucky 1-0 defeat to La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguayan's display impressed his fellow countryman Luis Suarez, who posted a picture of the pair on social media, along with the message: "Continue like this and good things will come."

The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker scored the only goal of the game, the 500th of his career.

Among the other United loanees in action, Jesse Lingard scored a beauty and assisted Jarrod Bowen's strike with a quick free-kick as he continues to sparkle at West Ham United. Unfortunately for the England midfielder, Arsenal hit back from three goals down to force a 3-3 draw at the London Stadium.

Ethan Laird claimed an assist for Warren O'Hora's goal  in MK Dons' 2-1 win over Burton Albion, although he also conceded a penalty for a foul, while Teden Mengi performed well in Derby County's defence despite a narrow 1-0 loss at Stoke City.

Rams boss Wayne Rooney commented afterwards: "The only good performance from today, in my opinion, was young Teden Mengi; I thought he was excellent. The other players seemed off it."

Keeper Jacob Carney continues to show his worth at Portadown, keeping a clean sheet and earning Man of the Match in a 1-0 away win at Dungannon Swifts in Northern Ireland's Premiership.
