Luke Shaw

Luke: If Ole said I’m a great finisher, I’ll take it

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has reacted to praise on his attacking output from fans and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The England international has been in electrifying form this campaign, producing his best season to date for the Reds. In 27 Premier League appearances this season, Shaw has provided five assists and scored once: our opener against Manchester City at the home of our neighbours in March.

In our recent Q&A with fans, which you can read and watch in full now, Mike from the United Kingdom asked the full-back what it was like to score in our 2-0 triumph against our Manchester rivals.

"Hi Mike, when I scored it was one of the greatest feelings I’ve felt on the pitch for a while," the 25-year-old said.

"Of course, it was a bit disappointing to score in a big game like that with no fans, but the feeling was still the same I felt inside. It was unbelievable and I felt so happy. It was such a big game and an important time for us and for me. It was a brilliant feeling and hopefully I can score many more goals."

Here's what happened when the Reds travelled across town for the Manchester derby in March 2021...

No man is closer to the action at the Aon Training Complex than Solskjaer and our Norwegian manager has revealed in several interviews that he believes Shaw is one of the best finishers at the club.

Isaac from the United States asked our no. 23 whether he thinks that is true himself.

"Isaac, good question. I’m happy to just go with what the manager says, if he says it then it’s true,” Shaw said with a smile on his face.

"I think I would put myself up there but I need to back it up on the pitch and start scoring more goals and maybe more people might start believing me! But if Ole said it then I’ll take it. Like I said, I need to be backing it up on the pitch more."

As well as finding the back of the net, Luke has provided his team mates with great service. Along with his five assists in the Premier League, the full-back had the penultimate touch in our away match against Istanbul Basaksehir in the UEFA Champions League.

In his comeback for the Three Lions against Albania in March, Luke also crossed in a precise ball for Harry Kane to head home in England's 2-0 win.

With plenty of quality passes to choose from, Shyam from the United Kingdom has put forward the question of which assist has been Luke’s favourite this season.

"Shyam my favourite assist this season would be… I’d probably say the one against Southampton,” February and March's Player of the Month revealed before explaining the reason behind it.

"I think it was the first goal, crossing for Aaron [Wan-Bissaka] to score at the back stick. Full-back to full-back is always a good one and he finished it nicely, so I’ll have to say Aaron’s."
