Man Utd celebrate Joe Hugill's goal against Leeds.

Who was our Man of the Match in Oslo?

Wednesday 12 July 2023 18:55

Manchester United began our 2023 pre-season campaign with victory in Oslo, as goals from Noam Emeran and Joe Hugill secured a 2-0 win over rivals Leeds United.

We had the better of the play throughout, even after the break when Erik ten Hag made 11 substitutions and sent a youthful second-half side out to complete the game.

The score was still deadlocked with just a quarter of the match to play, before Emeran sprung on to Isak Hansen-Aaroen's pass and finished well.

Hugill doubled our advantage soon after, with Emeran turning provider prior to another one-touch finish from our no.52.

Mason Mount made his first appearance for the club, while Lisandro Martinez returned from injury.

Several of the loanees who impressed at other sides last season, including Alvaro Fernandez, Amad and Hannibal also showed what they could do during the first half.

But it was Emeran who got your vote as our Man of the Match, after his goal and assist.

The 20-year-old Frenchman looked sharp throughout his 45-minute showing, going on a mazy dribble in the opening stages of the second half which took three Leeds players to stop.

Emeran, who impressed at Under-21 level last term, then showed his prowess in front of goal, firing past Dani van den Heuvel on 67 minutes to put the Reds in front.

And, with 10 to play, a clever reverse pass found Hugill with no-one around him to complete the scoring.

Noam was buzzing at the experience of playing in front of United's fans out in Norway and delighted that we could get off to a winning start this summer.

“I'm happy for him as well to score and we represent the Academy, so it's nice,” Emeran told MUTV after the final whistle.

“We are here to take experience, so it's nice to play in a full stadium, to play in front of the fans. So yeah, it's a good feeling, it’s a very good feeling to play in a stadium like this.

“It was important for the team as well, for the coach, because it's our first game of the year. So we wanted to play well, respect the tactics and the rules of the coach and get the win at the end.”
