Manchester United defender Alex Telles has thanked Brazil team-mate Neymar for his personal tribute during Monday’s World Cup last-16 victory over South Korea.

Reds left-back Telles - currently on loan at Sevilla – suffered a serious knee injury during the final group-stage match against Cameroon and he has subsequently been ruled out of the tournament.

Everybody at Manchester United is sending strength to Alex at this difficult time.

A proud Brazilian and true professional, Telles has remained in Qatar to support his team-mates and he was in the stands on Monday as Tite’s men earned an impressive 4-0 win over South Korea

Neymar was back in the starting XI at Stadium 974, having recovered from the injury he suffered on matchday one. After Vinicius Jr opened the scoring, the Brazil icon doubled the lead from the penalty spot and immediately ran to the crowd to embrace Telles.

As you can see below, the gesture meant a lot to Alex, who has shown his class during an extremely difficult moment in his career.

WE’RE ALL BEHIND YOU, ALEX

Ahead of the match on Monday, Telles used his official Instagram to post an emotional statement about his injury setback and, in a sign of his character, the defender has vowed to come back even stronger.

“Paths are not straight, they have bends,” Telles wrote on Instagram.

“Not every moment in life is joyful, but the bright side of it (and we absolutely always have the counterpoint to sadness) is that after the cry, it's time to smile. I always had a childhood dream, which was to defend my country in a World Cup. And that dream, you can be sure, did not end here.
“My dream remains inside every team-mate who will enter the field in the matches until the end of the World Cup. My dream follows inside every fan who screams for our country in the stands. Because this dream was never just mine, it has always been a dream of all those who love Brazil and live intensely football. I follow by heart as a fan from now on. In fact, I still feel as I've always felt: a Brazilian who never gave up dreaming. I made a drawing as a kid that showed everything I wanted and actually ever wanted in my life.

“Before the match against Cameroon, I looked at that drawing and asked God to let his will be done. And this is how I’m dealing with every minute since I left the field. Nothing comes without a purpose in our lives. And with the same will of that child who drew his dreams, I will follow my path. Thanks everyone for the love. I will come back even stronger!!!!! THE DREAM CONTINUES.”
