Rashford joins an elite group of United legends

Sunday 04 December 2022 21:05

Marcus Rashford earned his 50th England cap on Sunday evening and, in doing so, our homegrown hero joined an elite group of Manchester United players to achieve that milestone.

The Wythenshawe lad was a second-half substitute during the Three Lions’ impressive 3-0 victory over Senegal in the World Cup last 16.

Rashford, wearing the no.11 shirt, was typically dangerous from the right wing and he created an excellent chance for captain Harry Kane to score from close range.

Marcus later went close to scoring in added time when shooting into the side netting from a teasing Luke Shaw cross.

While Rashy could not add to his tally of three goals in the tournament so far, he played a key role in seeing out a win that has teed up a mouth-watering quarter-final against champions France

That is an extremely exciting prospect for all football fans and particularly those of a United persuasion, with Harry Maguire, Shaw and Rashford set to face fellow Red Raphael Varane.

It will be fascinating to see if in-form Rashford starts that match against a side that includes the World Cup’s top scorer so far in Kylian Mbappe. The game is scheduled for 19:00 GMT on Saturday.

In case you didn't already know, United will also be in action that day: Erik ten Hag's Reds are due to face Real Betis in a friendly that kicks off at 17:00 GMT. You can watch that live via MUTV.
