Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has confirmed “everything went well” during his surgery to repair the fractured metatarsal that he suffered at Old Trafford last week.

The fans' favourite was forced off during our Europa League quarter-final first leg against Sevilla and it was later confirmed that he will miss the rest of this season

A club statement last Friday stated that Licha is expected to make a full recovery in time for the start of 2023/24 and his latest Instagram post suggests his rehab has started positively.

The Old Trafford hero has posted a photo of himself post-surgery on social media, with the caption: “Everything went really well, thanks to God! Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery.”

A host of United team-mates including Diogo Dalot, Alejandro Garnacho, David De Gea have posted messages of support in the comments section so far.

Martinez’s encouraging update follows a previous message that he shared with supporters on Saturday afternoon, acknowledging the huge outpouring of support he has received so far.

“Not the way I imagined what's been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them,” he wrote.

“I know that I'll be back very soon to go for more. In the meantime, I'll continue to support all my team-mates to achieve our objectives.

“The number of messages and support I've received has been amazing, they're giving me strength and encouragement at this moment.

“Many, many thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Elsewhere on Instagram, fellow defender Raphael Varane has shared the lovely news that his third child Elena has been born.

Everybody at United is delighted for the Varane family.

Welcome to the world, Elena.
