Who will United face in this year's Papa John's Trophy?

Manchester United will face Barrow, Carlisle United and Fleetwood Town in the group stage of the 2022/23 Papa John's Trophy.

The Reds are one of 16 academy sides that will join the 48 teams from League One and League Two in the first stage of the competition.
 
United will compete in Group G of the Northern Section, which comprises eight group of four teams.
 
The dates and times of the fixtures are yet to be decided, but each Academy team will play all their games away from home.

Mark Dempsey's youngsters will be hoping to improve on last year's campaign, where we exited at the group stage after one win (Bradford City) and two defeats (Lincoln City and Sunderland).

In the two seasons previous to that, we made it to the second round but were eliminated at that point.
Rotherham United won last year's edition, after a 4-2 victory (after extra-time) over Sutton United at Wembley Stadium.
 
Arsenal were the most successful Under-21 side in the 2021/22 Papa John's Trophy, reaching the quarter-final stage before being knocked out by Wigan Athletic.
