Loan Watch: Fernandez makes first Championship start

Manchester United defender Alvaro Fernandez made his first league start for Preston North End this weekend, as the 19-year-old featured in the sides 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United at Deepdale.

Fernandez featured for 69 minutes before his withdrawal, as a goal in each half, from Iliman Ndiaye and Oli McBurnie ensured the Blades climbed to the top of the pile in the Championship yesterday afternoon. 

The defeat leaves North End in 15th position in the table, with an away trip to face Sunderland next on the cards following the completion of the upcoming international break.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Ethan Laird completed another 90-minute outing, as QPR drew 0-0 at home against Stoke City. 

The 21-year-old has now played every minute of the London club's domestic campaign so far and continues to impress boss Michael Beale. Rangers have enjoyed a strong start to the season and current occupy 6th position in the standings at present. 

Striker Amad was also in action in England's second flight over the weekend, as his Sunderland side twice came from behind to rescue a point away at Watford.

Keinan Davis had opened the scoring at Vicarage Road in the first half, before Ajibola Alese levelled the scoring prior to the half-time interval. Luke O'Nien then put into his own net to hand the Hornerts the lead once more, before 18-year-old Jewison Bennette struck the leveller just three minutes before time was up. 

Hannibal was also in action for Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon, featuring for the final 23 minutes as the Blues drew 0-0 with close rivals Coventry City. 

Making his fourth substitute cameo, the 19-year-old is continuing to make an impressive during his time at St Andrew's, with John Eustance's side currently situated in 17th position.

Dean Henderson played 90 minutes once more for Nottingham Forest on Friday evening, as the Tricky Trees were beaten 3-2 by fellow Premier League newcomers Fulham.

Taiwo Awoniyi had given the home side the lead, before three strikes in six minutes from Tosin Adarabioyo, Joao Palhinha and Harrison Reed gave the Cottagers a 3-1 advantage. Midfielder Lewis O'Brien grabbed one back but it proved to be too little too late for Steve Cooper's men.

 

Ethan Galbraith featured for an hour against Tranmere Rovers too over the weekend, with his Salford City side losing 1-0 at home.

Josh Hawkes's goal after 34 minutes proved to pivotal, as the Ammies remain in sixth position in the League Two table.

Matej Kovar also completed another 90 minutes for Sparta Prague, as the Czech outfit drew 1-1 with Banik Ostrava. Lukas Sadilek had opened the scoring early on for the hosts, before Jiri Klima equalised just after the restart. Prague remain in third position in the table. 

Both Eric Bailly and Alex Telles are in action today (Sunday), as Marseille and Sevilla both play, against Rennes and Villarreal respectively.
