Donny van de Beek

Donny receives praise after birthday assist

Monday 19 April 2021 12:00

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek marked his 24th birthday with a clever assist against Burnley.

The Netherlands international has made a number of solid contributions recently as a substitute and was brought on by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 84th minute in our Premier League encounter with Burnley on Sunday, with the score level at 1-1. Mason Greenwood immediately put us back ahead and as we looked to clinch the three points in injury time, van de Beek made an impact.

In a classic United counter-attack, our no. 34 received the ball from Bruno Fernandes on the left of the Clarets' box. The former Ajax man showcased his awareness and passing quality as he squared the ball to pick out fellow substitute Edinson Cavani, who had made space for himself inside the visitors' area and sealed our 3-1 win in stoppage time with an easy tap-in.

Donny himself was pleased with his first league assist for the Reds and Sunday’s result at a sunny Old Trafford, describing it as 'a perfect birthday' on social media.

After our triumph against Burnley, it was clear that his United team-mates were also made up with our no.34's brief showing.

Fernandes, for example, dedicated his post-match tweet to his midfield partner.

Marcus Rashford, who was in blistering form on the left wing on Sunday, easing past opponents with impeccable skill, also wanted to show his love for Donny.

Our no. 10 requested photos of the pair together and for fans to show their appreciation for our hard-working midfielder.

The birthday boy himself replied to Marcus with a picture of the duo celebrating the latter’s goal against arch-rivals Liverpool in our 3-2 Emirates FA Cup win back in January.

Of course, everyone at Manchester United hopes van de Beek had a great birthday and we are all excited to see what the talented midfielder provides for the Reds in the future.

Cheers, Donny!
