Who wins February's Player of the Month?

Wednesday 01 March 2023 10:00

Three names are in the frame to become February's official Player of the Month at Manchester United.

There were many Reds worthy of a mention after a superb spell for the team, which included progress past Barcelona in the Europa League and, of course, lifting the Carabao Cup at Wembley.

Despite the packed schedule, Erik ten Hag's men maintained our sparkling form and our contenders are Casemiro, Fred and Marcus Rashford.

Who is United's Player of the Month for February?

David De Gea, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane and Bruno Fernandes also received nominations from our panel of club reporters, but we have a three-man shortlist to choose from.

Read up on the contributions of Casemiro, Fred and Rashford below, as they helped ensure we went unbeaten in all eight games across February, and then register your vote in our poll.

CASEMIRO: 5 apps / 5 goals / 1 MOTM

The world-class midfielder never lets his standards drop and he was a worthy winner of the Man-of-the-Match award in the Carabao Cup final, after heading in the opener against Newcastle United.

Exuding passion, determination, experience and quality, he is up for the award despite missing three games, after receiving a red card against Crystal Palace. The former Real Madrid star was jeered by the home fans at the Nou Camp but helped Ten Hag's men earn a 2-2 draw with a gritty display, following it up with a key role in the 2-1 second-leg win, making a remarkable double block in the first half that kept the Reds in the tie.

FRED - 8 apps / 2 goals / 1 MOTM

The tireless Brazil international found the net twice - against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg and with a right-footed strike in the win over Barcelona, also at Old Trafford. Getting the recognition he deserves, the midfielder started all eight of our matches across February and has become a vital cog in the Ten Hag machine, particularly when fellow countryman Casemiro was missing due to suspension.

There were also two assists for Fred, in both the Europa League and the Premier League, when he laid the ball for Marcus Rashford's leveller away to Barcelona and also provided for the England international's second goal against Leicester City. Described as a 'mosquito' by the boss for the way he hounded Frenkie De Jong in the matches with Barcelona, the South American, who turns 30 on Sunday, can be delighted with his performances.

The Reds made a flying start to the second half, with Fred finding the bottom corner to level the scores...

MARCUS RASHFORD - 7 (1) apps / 7 goals / 3 MOTMs

We are running out of superlatives about our no.10 and, when the second goal at Wembley was officially credited to him, it racked up 25 for the season. Seven strikes in total across the month was a phenomenal effort as Marcus shrugged off a knock sustained against Barcelona to help the Reds lift the Carabao Cup.

He won our individual star-man award in three of the games - the win at Leeds United, draw with Barcelona and victory over Leicester City. The display in the Nou Camp was particularly outstanding as he not only squeezed a shot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen but also weaved his magic to trick his way past Raphinha and set up the own-goal by Jules Kounde.

The only game he didn't score when starting was the home leg with the Catalans, but he netted twice in the 3-0 victory over Leicester.

Make sure you get involved by casting your vote before the deadline at 09:00 GMT on Friday morning.

Casemiro won our trophy for the first time in October, and has now been nominated in each of the four months since, while Marcus has scooped the previous two awards as reward for his scintillating form.
