Reds show support after Garnacho injury news

Tuesday 14 March 2023 14:17

Following the recent confirmation that Alejandro Garnacho is injured and looks unable to take part in Manchester United's upcoming matches against Real Betis or Fulham, the young winger has received support from his Reds team-mates.

The electric attacker came on in the second half of our 0-0 draw with Southampton on Sunday and underwent treatment after being hurt in a challenge with Saints right-back Kyle Walker-Peters.

The 18-year-old played on following the tackle, but was replaced by Fred in injury time and headed straight down the tunnel.

Speculation on the winger's fitness ensued and on Tuesday afternoon, Garnacho revealed that he faces a spell on the sidelines and misses out on the opportunity to represent Argentina's national side in the international break.

Alejandro says he will miss out on Argentina's upcoming internationals.

He shared his disappointment on Instagram: "It is difficult to put into words how I’m feeling right now. Unfortunately, I will not be able to help my team and team-mates in the upcoming games in what is a very important part of the season for us at Manchester United.

"I am disappointed to also miss the opportunity to be with my team-mates of the Argentinian national team in what would have been a great and proud moment for me and my family."

Following Alejandro's announcement, his United team-mates commented on the post to show their support.

Christian Eriksen, who is on the road to recovery himself following the ankle injury he sustained against Reading in January, posted three bicep emojis.

David De Gea also shared his backing for Garnacho, simply stating: "Tranquillity and recovery."

Fellow South American youngster Facundo Pellistri was quick to praise Alejandro and wish him well: "Let's go up lil bro! You're a 'crack'! You will come back stronger."

It wasn't just United players who commented on the post, though, with Argentina international Leandro Paredes, with whom Lisandro Martinez lifted the 2022 World Cup, sharing his support for his young compatriot too.

Alejandro has often made an impact this season, whether starting or coming off the bench. Scoring crucial goals against West Ham in the previous round of the FA Cup and against the likes of Fulham and Leeds United in 2022/23, the winger is sure to be a big miss while he is sidelined.

The timescale of his absence is not yet clear, but we wish our no.49 all the best in his recovery.
