Varane and Garnacho send classy messages to Walker-Peters
Raphael Varane and Alejandro Garnacho have sent messages of support to Southampton's Kyle Walker-Peters, after the full-back was the victim of online abuse following Sunday's Premier League match at Old Trafford.
The England international made a tackle on Garnacho in the final stages of the game, which led to the Argentinian receiving treatment for an apparent injury.
When Walker-Peters mentioned it would never be his intention to hurt or injured a fellow player on social media, he received hateful, racist abuse, which has led to Southampton contacting the police.
Walker-Peters then wrote:
“The racial abuse I received is something that no player or person should ever have to experience. We need to be better, and this is bigger than just football.”
United players Varane and Garnacho were quick to show support for their opponent, replying to Walker-Peters on Instagram with personal messages.
Varane said: “Bigger than football. Well said Kyle, you have my support.”
While Garnacho posted: “More than football. Thank you very much for the message brother, this is part of football❤️”
