How many Premier League goals have United now scored?

Tuesday 27 October 2020 04:58

It’s exactly a year to the day since Manchester United scored our 2,000th Premier League goal.

It was Scott McTominay who grabbed that landmark strike on 27 October 2019, when he bagged the first in our 3-1 victory over Norwich City, and, 366 days later, it’s a unique record we can still proudly boast.

To this day, United remain the only side in Premier League history to reach 2,000 goals, with Arsenal the closest with an overall tally of 1,909, followed by Liverpool (1,874) and Chelsea (1,852). In fact, only 10 teams have even made it to a thousand since the league’s inception in 1992.

With all the attacking talents in United’s current squad, it’s no surprise to see we’re well past that 2,000 total today, as we currently sit on 2,064, 155 more than any other side in Premier League history.

INDIVIDUAL SCORERS

Over the years at Old Trafford, we’ve been fortunate to witness some extremely talented goalscorers, and with 183 Premier League strikes for United, no-one has netted more for the Reds than Wayne Rooney. He’s actually scored just under nine per cent of all United’s goals in the division.

Ryan Giggs (109) and Paul Scholes (107) are the only players to hit a century for the Reds in the Premier League, while Ruud van Nistelrooy has the highest tally of any non-UK player, with 95.

From our current batch, Anthony Martial is 10th on the list, having scored 51 times, followed by Marcus Rashford, in 14th, with 46 goals.

BEST SEASON

It might not come as a surprise that our most efficient season in front of goal came when we had the quartet of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up front. Throw in Giggs, Scholes and David Beckham, and it’s not difficult to see why 1999/2000 was our highest-scoring Premier League campaign to date, with 97 goals.
